Two Artsakh Residents Brutally Beaten with Baseball Bat for Not Yielding on the Road, Lawyer Claims
Photos feature citizens of Artsakh as well as Estonia and the Netherlands, who were brutally beaten with a baseball bat today in front of the "SAS" supermarket on Komitas Street for not yielding on the road.
This alarming incident was reported by Artsakh lawyer Roman Yeritsyan, addressing the Investigative Committee and the human rights defender. "When an Artsakh resident throws an empty plastic bottle during a gathering, they are identified by cameras the same day, declared a victim by 15 police officers, arrested on suspicion of hooliganism from a remote village, and detained on the same day. But when two Artsakh residents, aged 65 and 51, are pushed on the shoulder for allegedly not yielding while waiting for a taxi on Komitas Avenue, injured, and brutally beaten with a bat pulled from a vehicle in front of cameras and dozens of witnesses, the Investigative Committee, located just a few meters away, cannot locate the assailant. They do not manage to seize the bloody clothes from the hospital, and there is no urgency in recognizing the Artsakh residents as victims, even after the workday is over, when there seems to be no time to address the case," he explained.
This is happening despite the fact that the identity of the assailant, including their vehicle and license plate, is known and their face was captured by various cameras. Instead, individuals rush to advise the same Artsakh residents not to complain anywhere, promising that "everything will be fine." The victims are currently in the resuscitation unit of Heratsi Hospital with skull fractures. Has the assailant been arrested? Of course not. The Investigative Committee is preoccupied with political persecutions. I would like to simply state that this act is considered particularly grave, while the Artsakh resident accused of throwing a bottle is considered of medium severity," Yeritsyan added.
