Sad Irony: Lapshin on Armenia's Recognition of Palestine

Blog writer Alexander Lapshin has commented on Armenia's recognition of Palestine's independence.

“Many are asking me to comment on Armenia's recognition of Palestine's independence yesterday. Is it surprising? I am so busy organizing meetings and events related to Azerbaijani crimes that I am not particularly following the news coming from Europe and Armenia. By the way, I am currently in South America, and apparently, everything is going very well here. In a week, I will be in Washington to meet at Congress; I will share more about all that later.

So, about Palestine: If this recognition gives Armenia something (investments, privileges), then it was correct to recognize it. Almost 150 countries around the world have recognized Palestine; there is nothing new here. Moreover, Armenia has recognized Palestine for the second time, as it initially recognized it back in the Soviet era. This step is symbolic and cannot change anything as long as the issue with the Hamas terrorists in Gaza is not resolved and until the Palestinian administration does not control most of its territory.

Israel was not very concerned about whether supplying weapons to Azerbaijan would please Armenia. I believe that Armenia should not worry about whether its recognition of Palestine will please the Israelis. It is very right that Armenia has started to act according to its own interests. The political will was not enough to recognize Artsakh, but at least it managed to do so with Palestine. A sad irony,” wrote Lapshin.
