Medvedev Calls US Proposal to Discuss New Nuclear Program a Madman's Delusion

The proposal from the American leadership to discuss an analog to the Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty with Russia is a madman's delusion, especially given the regular supply of weapons from the US to Ukraine. This was stated by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, on June 21.

Earlier, a representative of the US National Security Council stated in an interview with RIA Novosti that Washington is ready to discuss the agreement with Moscow, which could become a successor to the START Treaty. The agency's interlocutor noted that the US authorities are open to talks on nuclear risks and arms control issues without link to the Ukrainian conflict.

Medvedev, in a message posted on his Telegram channel, drew parallels with World War II. “Imagine if Nazi Germany had approached the USSR during World War II proposing to bring in a separate negotiating track on limitations on weapons production. Absurdity, madness, the delusion of a madman,” he wrote.

Medvedev also pointed out that Washington supplies Kyiv with all sorts of weapons, including long-range missiles, while simultaneously declaring its readiness to discuss a new START. According to him, such a thing is only possible after refusing to supply Ukraine with weapons and blocking its NATO membership.
