Elephant Attacks and Kills American Tourist in Zambia
On June 19, an elephant killed an American tourist in Livingstone, Zambia. According to local authorities, this is the second such attack in the country during 2024. This was reported by the Associated Press.
On Friday, Zambian authorities provided details about the death of 64-year-old Juliana G. Letourneau. The elephant, part of a herd that tourists had been following, charged at their vehicle, throwing the woman out and trampling her.
“She was part of a group that had stopped near the famous Maramba Bridge due to a traffic jam caused by the herd of elephants,” the report stated.
This marks the second such attack this year; in March, another American tourist was killed during a trip to a national park in Zambia when an elephant charged their truck, overturned it, killed the man, and injured five others.
