Ecuador, a country in South America with a population of approximately 18 million, has been left without electricity due to a breakdown in the power transmission lines and a shutdown of generation capacity.
According to local media reports, the metro services have been halted, traffic in cities has faced disruptions, traffic lights have not been functioning, and there has been no water supply in homes, leading to significant communication and internet issues everywhere.
Videos and photos have also been shared online. It has been reported that power has already been restored to 95 percent of the affected areas. The electricity outage in the country is a result of an accident.
Ecuador has been grappling with an energy crisis for several months due to massive shutdowns of hydroelectric plants amidst record drought conditions across the country, as well as a halt in electricity supply from neighboring Colombia.
