EU to Provide €18 Million Support to Armenia

The government approved the financing agreement between the Republic of Armenia and the European Commission for the "State and Resilience Strengthening Agreement for the Republic of Armenia." According to Armenpress, the relevant project was presented by Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan during the government meeting on June 20.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the goal of this program, worth a total of €15 million, which will be signed in the first quarter of 2024, is to support Armenia's socio-economic resilience, particularly addressing the urgent, medium-term, and long-term issues faced by individuals forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as their long-term socio-economic inclusion.

“The program includes the provision of one-time multi-purpose cash assistance, support for the needs of temporary shelters and utility costs, assistance for women and vulnerable groups, as well as the socio-economic recovery of hosting communities,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

Grigoryan also informed that under another agreement, which is included in the non-reported issues package of the government, the EU will provide an additional €3 million in support.

“This program also aims to support the government in a broader reform process and the further socio-economic integration of individuals forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, particularly in implementing strategies related to healthcare, social protection, and employment,” the Deputy Prime Minister concluded.
