Russia Comments on Armenia and France's CAESAR Artillery Acquisition Deal
The supply of 155mm CAESAR French self-propelled howitzers to Armenia could lead to a deterioration of the situation. This was stated by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin in an interview with "RIA Novosti." Galuzin commented on the deal between Armenia and France regarding the acquisition of CAESAR artillery systems. According to him, there are no regions in the world where arms supplies from the West have improved the situation. "I do not know of any region where Western arms supplies have improved the situation," the deputy foreign minister noted. He added that this assertion fully applies to the South Caucasus.
It is noteworthy that on June 18, French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced that Paris would sell 155mm CAESAR howitzers to Armenia. He emphasized that Paris "continues to strengthen defense relations" with Yerevan.
