Details on Kim Jong Un and Putin's Talks: A Document Will Be Signed
Negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un have taken place in Pyongyang, involving delegation meetings. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
This marks Putin's first visit to North Korea since 2000. Early in the morning, the Russian leader arrived at Kim Il Sung Square with his North Korean counterpart, where a ceremonial reception occurred, after which Putin and Kim Jong Un proceeded to the state residence.
As noted by the Russian president at the start of the meeting, a 'new fundamental document' will be signed during the negotiations, which will serve as the foundation for Russia and North Korea's relations.
'As a result of your visit to Russia last year, we made significant progress in building our interstate relations today. A new fundamental document has been prepared, which will serve as the basis for our relations in the long term,' Putin mentioned.
The Russian leader recalled that last year the countries celebrated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and this year marks the 75th anniversary of signing the first interstate document on economic and cultural cooperation.
'As you know, that agreement was signed by Comrade Kim Il Sung during his first visit to Moscow,' the Russian leader reminded.
Putin expressed hope that the next meeting with Kim Jong Un would take place in Moscow. He also shared his impressions received from Pyongyang, noting that the city has become more beautiful: 'The changes in Pyongyang since my previous visit in 2000 are impressive. It's simply noticeable... It’s pleasant to see it, I honestly say.'
