We Have Reached an Important Agreement: Orban

Hungary has reached an agreement with NATO that it will not send its forces to participate in the alliance's operations supporting Ukraine, nor will it provide financial support for such actions. This agreement will remain in effect even if the current Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, becomes the next Secretary General of NATO. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban confirmed this on the X social media platform.

"We have reached an important agreement with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. We agreed that no Hungarian soldier will participate in NATO operations in Ukraine, and no Hungarian finances will be used to support them," Orban wrote.

He added that after a meeting on Monday, Mark Rutte confirmed that he fully supports this agreement and will uphold it if he assumes the position of NATO Secretary General. Orban published Rutte's letter with an appropriate statement.

Earlier, the Financial Times, citing its sources, reported that Prime Minister Mark Rutte had promised Viktor Orban that if he becomes NATO's Secretary General, Hungary would have the right to refuse to participate in NATO activities outside its territory in support of Ukraine.
