16,000 Injured During Kurban Bayram in Turkey

On the first day of the Kurban Bayram holiday, approximately 16,000 people visited medical facilities in Turkey, announced Health Minister Fahrettin Koca. All of them were injured during the slaughtering of sacrificial animals.

“This occurs when animals are slaughtered by non-professionals,” Koca wrote on social media platform X. According to him, the highest number of injuries was reported in Ankara, with 1,300 people affected. Istanbul saw 840 injuries, while Izmir had 416.

In Turkey, slaughtering should take place in designated areas. However, local residents often violate this requirement, leading to thousands of injuries on the day of Kurban Bayram.

Kurban Bayram is an annual Islamic holiday of sacrifice, celebrated on the 10th day of the 12th month of the lunar calendar. In 2024, it began on the night of June 16.
