Russia Assists Armenia and Restores Railway Connection with Georgia in Record Time - Ovechuk
In a difficult moment, Russia came to the aid of the Armenian people and restored the railway connection with Georgia, which had been disrupted by flooding, in record time. The only railway linking Armenia with the outside world is a crucial artery for delivering essential cargo to the country, and a prolonged disruption could have serious negative consequences for providing food and fuel to the population. This was stated by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Ovechuk in a conversation with reporters, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.
He emphasized the importance of Russian specialists' assistance in restoring the railway communication with Georgia in such a short period. He noted that Russian experts worked around the clock with their Armenian counterparts to restore the railway sections damaged by the natural disaster.
“The first test train set off on the restored railway line on June 14, one week ahead of the planned schedule. The vital railway connection with Georgia has been restored for the people of Armenia,” concluded Alexey Ovechuk.
It is noteworthy that train traffic on the Ayrum-Sanahin section began on June 14. The first container train passed through the restored section on June 15. However, additional work is still needed to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents.
