Google Accused of Violating Competition Laws

Google will implement a choice of search engines after notifying the Kazakh Agency for Competition Development and Protection. Previously, the agency had sent a notice to the American company regarding a potential abuse of its dominant position.

In response, Google introduced a window with two search engine options that appears on Android devices when launching the Chrome browser for the first time after an update. This window cannot be skipped. Users see it when opening the widget or browser, as noted by the antitrust body.

It was mentioned that nearly five million owners of Android devices have already updated the browser, with 82.95 percent choosing Google and 17.04 percent opting for Yandex. “This is the first instance where a major multinational company has responded to a notice regarding the abuse of dominance outside the jurisdiction of Kazakhstan,” the agency emphasized.

Various countries, including EU countries, Russia, and Belarus, have also introduced windows for choosing search engines as required by regulatory authorities.
