Armenia-US Dialogue to Elevate Status to Strategic Partnership Commission

Armenia and the United States have emphasized the role of US support in the transformation of Armenia's defense sector and the development of law enforcement initiatives during the concluding meeting of the strategic dialogue. This is noted in the joint statement released following the meeting results.

Both Armenia and the United States have addressed the progress made towards strengthening bilateral relations and outlined a vision for deepening ties in the coming year, which will be formalized by a Memorandum of Understanding, elevating the status of bilateral dialogue to the Strategic Partnership Commission.

The statement mentions that the US plans to continue supporting Armenia through advisory programs, military-to-military contacts, opportunities for professional military education via the International Military Education and Training (IMET) program, and a long-term state partnership program with the Kansas National Guard.

It is emphasized that the United States has reaffirmed its support for Armenia's sovereignty, independence, democracy, and territorial integrity, in accordance with the 1991 Almaty Declaration.

The parties addressed issues regarding support for Armenia's economic and energy resilience, the promotion of democratic institutions, and cooperation in security and law enforcement fields. The document also indicates that trade between Armenia and the US has already quadrupled since 2020.

The parties committed to continuing to maximize the expansion of commercial and economic ties. Armenia expressed gratitude for more than 21 million dollars in humanitarian assistance provided to those forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh.

On June 11, during the concluding meeting of the Armenia-US strategic dialogue in Yerevan, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan hosted the interagency delegation led by US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O'Brien. Armenia initiated the strategic dialogue with the US in May 2022, following a meeting between Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington.
