Video: No Police Left in the Regions, Says MP
Everything depends on the pressure from the people. This was stated today, June 10, in an interview with journalists on Baghramyan Avenue by Arman Ghazaryan, an MP from the "Armenia" faction, regarding whether an extraordinary session of the National Assembly could be called to demand the resignation of the government.
"They must take the people's demands into account; there is no other option," he said.
Referring to the actions of the police the day before, which prevented the march from entering Demirchyan Street, the MP stated, "This is a police state, and it is not the first time that the police have acted illegally. They have shown this many times, including in Kiran, near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and also on Demirchyan Street. As MPs, we were merely trying to go to our offices. The police have crossed all boundaries and are committing illegal actions. They have learned one thing and always say, ‘If you think our actions are illegal, you can contest them.’ But there have been many cases; what should we contest? If one protester pulls a shield from a police officer, they will be arrested, while nothing happens for their obvious crimes; at most, an internal investigation is initiated."
When asked why Police Chief Aram Hovhannisyan's behavior was tense yesterday, even leading to an incident between him and Bishop Bagrat, the opposition MP replied, "They are terrified by the large number of the population. As soon as they see a large number of people, they panic. There are no police left in the 10 regions of Armenia, including officers of the criminal police in civilian clothes here. As a result of their 'excellent' service, as far as I heard, there were two murders last night. This is a consequence of the criminal police officers maintaining public order here. That is not their function."
