UN Launches Rapid Needs Assessment Process in Disaster-Affected Areas

In response to the Republic of Armenia's international request for support following the floods that occurred in the Lori and Tavush regions on May 26, the UN has initiated a multi-sectoral Rapid Needs Assessment (MIRA) and Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) process.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a fact-finding group has conducted on-site work with the participation of experts from the UN Armenia office to rapidly gather data for the post-disaster needs assessment.

The group, alongside the Ministry of Emergency Situations team, has conducted surveys in affected communities, collaborating with local self-governing bodies and residents to swiftly complete the first phase of the rapid needs assessment. This is aimed at preparing for a more in-depth assessment of post-disaster needs and the recovery process.

As part of the multi-sectoral rapid needs assessment, preliminary and secondary data analyses have been conducted, evaluating the situation within communities and clarifying information regarding the affected population and infrastructure. As a result, strategic humanitarian priorities have been established.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations, in cooperation with UN partners, is making every effort to stabilize the situation in the disaster-affected areas and ensure the safety of the population.
