Parliamentary Opposition Submits Request to Convene Extraordinary Session
The parliamentary opposition factions 'Armenia' and 'I Have Honor' today submitted a request to the National Assembly Council, demanding an extraordinary session to be convened tomorrow or by June 17, with the agenda being the National Assembly's address regarding the government's resignation and the formation of a new government. This was reported by 'Azatutyun'.
If the National Assembly Council rejects the opposition factions' request, then according to the rules of procedure, an extraordinary session of the National Assembly must be convened by law on the 5th working day, specifically on June 17, at 18:30.
Secretary of the opposition 'Armenia' faction Artsvik Minasyan informed 'Azatutyun' that the opposition desires for the meeting to take place before June 17, and instead of the required 27 signatures to initiate the extraordinary session, they already have 32. Now, the National Assembly Council must approve their proposal at the council meeting scheduled for today.
The majority of the National Assembly Council members are from the ruling 'Civil Contract' faction, with only 2 out of 15 members being from the opposition — the leaders of the 'Armenia' and 'I Have Honor' factions. It is difficult to say whether the ruling party members will agree to convene an extraordinary session on the agenda of the government's resignation.
Yesterday, the leader of the 'Tavush for the Motherland' movement, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, addressed the factions of the National Assembly, urging the opposition to initiate a session on June 11 at 16:30 regarding the government’s resignation and the formation of a new government. He stated, 'On June 10, the National Assembly Council is obligated to make a decision to convene an extraordinary session. The deputies are obliged to act according to the will of the people,' adding, 'With our presence, we will not allow them to commit another anti-state mistake.'
