Alen Simonyan on the Convening of an Extraordinary National Assembly Session
The National Assembly Council is expected to reject the opposition's request to convene an extraordinary session of the National Assembly, stated Parliament President Alen Simonyan in a conversation with reporters.
“Can you name one reason why we should not reject it? Because they change a person every year, come back and say the same thing again,” he said to the journalists. According to Simonyan, they may blame them for all mortal sins, but nothing changes.
“They brought the flag of Artsakh and placed it here, but during the rally, they do not even hold up the Artsakh flag,” emphasized the Speaker of the National Assembly.
It is noteworthy that the “Armenia” and “I Have Honor” factions submitted a request to the National Assembly Council today, demanding that an extraordinary session be convened tomorrow or by June 17, with the agenda of the resignation of the government and the formation of a new government.
If the National Assembly Council rejects the opposition factions' request, according to the National Assembly’s procedural law, an extraordinary session will be automatically convened on the fifth working day—June 17 at 18:30.
Recall that Bishop Bagrat appealed to the factions of the National Assembly yesterday, asking the opposition to initiate a session on June 11 at 16:30, with the agenda of the government’s resignation and the formation of a new government.
“On June 10, the National Assembly Council is obliged to make a decision on convening the extraordinary session. The members of parliament must act in accordance with the will of the people,” said Bishop Bagrat.
