The National Assembly's Council will reject the request from the opposition factions 'Hayastan' and 'Pativ Unem' and will not include it in the agenda of upcoming sessions. This was announced by the President of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian, during a briefing with journalists.

The opposition factions submitted a request today to the Council, demanding an extraordinary session to discuss the resignation of the government. Simonian stated that they do not see the point in this.

In their request, the opposition MPs notably mentioned that 'Armenia's sovereignty is under direct threat. The current government has failed in the defense, security, territorial integrity, and inviolability of the borders of the Republic of Armenia.' They argued that 'it is an imperative of the moment for the governance of the state to be taken over, through political agreement, peacefully and smoothly, by experienced individuals of public authority.'

According to the rules of procedure of the National Assembly, if the Council rejects the request from the opposition factions, an extraordinary session of the National Assembly will be convened by law on the 5th working day, that is, on June 17 at 18:30.

Earlier today, the Secretary of the 'Hayastan' faction, Arzvik Minasyan, informed 'Azatutyun' that the opposition desires for the session to occur before June 17, and instead of the necessary 27 signatures to initiate the extraordinary session, they already have 32. Now, the Council of the National Assembly must approve their proposal during the meeting scheduled for today.

Minasyan also mentioned that if the ruling majority accepts this message, the government could resign, followed by the selection of a new Prime Minister and the formation of a new government. He emphasized that this is not related to the so-called impeachment.
