Investigators Detail Fatal Accident on Yerevan-Sevan-Ijevan Highway

On June 8, 2024, at around 10:26 PM, a tragic accident occurred on the Yerevan-Sevan-Ijevan highway at the 62.8 km mark. A 'Mitsubishi Canter' vehicle, traveling towards Yerevan, veered off its lane, collided with a concrete portion of a bridge, broke through iron railings, and fell into the Hrazdan River.

Rescue teams from the Ministry of Internal Affairs were able to retrieve the bodies of three individuals from the river, including a 61-year-old woman identified as H.H. from the Ararat province town of Vagharshapat, and her 8-year-old granddaughter L.M. The driver, 69-year-old S.K. from Yerevan, was also found deceased.

On the same day, the Gegharkunik Regional Investigative Department initiated criminal proceedings under Article 342, Part 3 of the RA Criminal Code at the Sevan investigative division. It has been revealed that S.K. and H.H. were married, and L.M. was their granddaughter. The vehicle belonged to a company named 'Sa...' where S.K. was employed as a driver.

Forensic examinations have been appointed, and the investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the accident and any possible contributing circumstances.
