When a Peace Treaty is Signed, the Meaning of the Minsk Group Disappears: Alen Simonyan Responds to Aliyev

Armenia is taking steps towards signing a peace treaty with Azerbaijan. This was stated by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, during a press briefing, in response to Ilham Aliyev's statement that Armenia and Azerbaijan should take steps to dissolve the Minsk Group.

What is Armenia's position on the matter? Simonyan remarked, “Discussions about the Minsk Group are talks that can happen after a peace treaty is signed. In other words, when a peace treaty is signed, its meaning disappears, because Azerbaijan itself claims that Armenia has some aspirations, and we have some aspirations, some demands. I say we will sign a peace treaty, and the issue will be settled.”

The Speaker of the National Assembly also expressed confusion over why, when we are close to signing a peace treaty and agreements are in place, Aliyev is attempting to undermine the peace process.
