Archbishop Bagrat on the Foreign Ministry's Statement
It is unclear what peace agreement Armenia is preparing to sign with Azerbaijan if there are no real negotiations, but only Baku's demands, said Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, leader of the "Tavush for the Homeland" movement, in an interview with Sputnik Armenia.
He commented on the Foreign Ministry's statement claiming that Armenia is ready to sign a peace agreement within a month. "I do not understand what peace we are talking about. We do not see negotiations with Azerbaijan; there are only demands from Baku. The Armenian side is merely a compliant performer of these demands. And even so, the Armenian authorities cannot guarantee peace. For example, they do not say that by surrendering villages in Tavush, the risks disappear; according to them, the risks merely decrease. Even unilateral concessions cannot lead to peace. Is this negotiation?" the Archbishop stated.
Today, in response to Ilham Aliyev's repeated demand to change the Constitution of Armenia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that this is an interference in the country's internal affairs. The agency added that Yerevan has no territorial claims against its neighbor, and the best way to dispel existing doubts is to sign a peace treaty. For its part, the Armenian side is ready to finalize the work on the document and sign it within a month.
