Governor on the Transfer of Territories from Syunik

The Governor of Syunik, Robert Ghukasyan, does not believe that any territories will be transferred to Azerbaijan after the border demarcation and delimitation processes are completed in the region. He made this statement during a briefing in the National Assembly of Armenia, responding to a question regarding whether territories from Syunik would be surrendered as part of this process.

“I don’t think so. I believe that in many places the Azerbaijanis should actually withdraw more. If demarcation and delimitation are carried out, of course, Azerbaijanis must retreat from the occupied territories, as there is an incursion into the sovereign territory of Armenia in Syunik. There is a clear demarcation and delimitation according to the map presented by the Prime Minister,” Ghukasyan stated.

He also addressed concerns about the discussions among the public regarding the demarcation and delimitation in the region, especially considering that this process has already begun in the Tavush region. “In Syunik, in my communications with the public, people are not particularly vocal about these topics, but I believe that demarcation and delimitation are important processes that should take place,” Ghukasyan noted.

At the same time, the Governor emphasized that he does not have clear information about the processes of delimitation and demarcation, as he is not a member of the relevant commission. “When this agenda comes to Syunik, I will be informed,” Ghukasyan said.
