EU Explains Why No Sanctions on Russian Gas Have Been Imposed Yet

European Commissioner Thierry Breton has explained why the EU has not yet imposed sanctions on Russian gas. According to RIA Novosti, he stated that Russia has not featured in 13 sanctions packages regarding gas due to the needs of union countries. However, after transitioning to alternative sources, Europe is unlikely to remain a major buyer.

Breton also commented on reports regarding an increase in gas imports from Russia to France, labeling it as 'completely temporary.'

Russia has repeatedly asserted that the West has made a mistake by rejecting Russian energy resources and will be forced to purchase them through intermediaries. Moscow has also promised to overcome the unprecedented pressure of sanctions, viewing the main goal as worsening people's living conditions.
