Beaten While Shouting ‘Holy Father, Holy Father’: Deacon Daniel Gavorgyan Describes Assault by Black Berets
Deacon Daniel Gavorgyan, who was injured and subsequently detained during a gathering near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs days ago, recounts how he was assaulted by members of the black beret units and assures that the police are prepared for anything.
“During this entire period, I was confident that they would not touch the clergy or express anything offensive. It turns out that this government, built on lies and deceit, is ready for anything. The police chief told me to call on citizens as a clergyman not to engage in confrontation. Just as I turned towards the people, they started hitting me. The most painful part was that without knowing if I was a holy father or not, they simply shouted ‘holy father, holy father’ while beating me. I couldn’t believe they would say such things. Now I am sure they are ready for anything,” Deacon Gavorgyan stated.
He described how the police struck him indiscriminately. It is worth recalling that on May 31, during a gathering near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deacon Daniel Gavorgyan was subjected to violence by the black beret forces and subsequently detained. He was released about three hours later and was taken to the hospital with injuries.
