A fire at the Ukhta oil refinery has resulted in casualties and fatalities. A criminal case has been initiated, according to the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Komi Republic of Russia.

According to investigation data, today a fire broke out at the Ukhta oil refinery during scheduled maintenance work carried out by a contractor, leading to injuries and deaths.

The agency reported that a criminal case has been opened regarding the incident involving the ignition of a storage tank, under Article 217, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violations of industrial safety requirements at hazardous production facilities resulting in the accidental death of two or more people).

“Within the framework of the criminal case, investigators intend to clarify the causes and circumstances of the incident, as well as identify individuals who violated established safety regulations,” the Investigative Committee of the Komi Republic specified.

The fire occurred at the oil refinery on Friday at noon.
