June Weather Forecast
The Hydrometeorological and Monitoring Center informs that in June, the duration of daylight and the height of the sun above the horizon significantly increase in the republic, resulting in considerable heating of the country’s surface. The duration of daylight increases by half an hour compared to May, reaching 15 hours, which is the longest period in the year.
Compared to the previous month, the average daily temperature rises by 3-4 degrees, reaching +11…+14°C in Gegharkunik, Kotayk, Shirak, Aragatsotn, and Vayots Dzor mountainous areas, +13…+15°C in Lori, +17…+19°C in Tavush and the foothills of Syunik, and +20…+23°C in the valleys of Syunik, Ararat Plain, and the foothills of Aragatsotn and Vayots Dzor. The average monthly temperature in Yerevan is 20.6°C, with an absolute maximum temperature of 39.4°C (recorded on June 22, 1998) and an absolute minimum of 1.7°C (recorded on June 5, 1967). The highest temperature in the republic during June was recorded in Kapan at 42°C.
Very hot Junes were observed in the years 1932, 1941, 1949, 1985, 1989, 2006, and 2012, when the monthly average temperature was 2-3 degrees above normal. Cool Junes occurred in 1933, 1967, 1968, and 1978, with the monthly average temperature being 2-3 degrees below normal.
A significant feature of the June weather regime and the distribution of precipitation in the northern regions of the republic throughout the month, and in the southern half in the first half of the month, is the presence of cyclones, atmospheric fronts, and subsurface processes. In the second half of the month, the southern regions of the republic fall under the circulation of warm air masses from the Middle East, resulting in a substantial decrease in the amount of precipitation.
In June, the maximum amount of precipitation is observed in Lori, reaching 120-130mm, while the minimum occurs in the Ararat Plain and its foothills, totaling 20-30mm. The most humid Junes were recorded in the years 1957, 1960, 1963, 1988, 1999, and 2011, while the driest occurred in 1943, 1949, 1970, 1982, 1987, 2000, and 2012.
Compared to May, there is a slight decrease in cloud cover, with the sky being only 40-55% covered by clouds, dominated by convective, mainly cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds.
Dangerous weather phenomena include thunderstorms, hail, as well as strong winds and heavy rains. Heavy rains in mountainous areas can lead to mudslides, which can cause significant damage to the economy. The monthly average temperature across the republic is expected to be close to normal, with precipitation levels above average.
