Chechen National Arrested in France for Planning Terror Attack During Olympic Games

An 18-year-old Chechen national has been arrested in France on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack. The name of the arrested individual has not yet been disclosed, according to Euronews.

French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin stated that the suspect had intended to carry out a terror attack at the "Geoffroy Guichard" stadium in Saint-Étienne, not far from Lyon, during the Olympic football games.

The alleged criminal was detained on May 22, and four days later, he was charged. According to Darmanin, the arrestee claimed he did not wish to enter the stadium with a weapon but intended to attack spectators outside the venue.
