4 Arrested in Major Operation Against Cybercrime in Armenia and Ukraine

Four individuals have been arrested in Ukraine and Armenia as part of a large-scale operation aimed at combating international cybercrime, according to Europol.

According to the agency, more than 100 internet servers were targeted in the operation, which resulted in thousands of victims. The special operations conducted from May 27-29 have been described by the EU law enforcement agency as “the largest operation against botnets in history, which play a crucial role in the spread of ransomware.”

According to a statement from Brussels, one of the arrests took place in Armenia, while the other three were made in Ukraine. The identities and nationalities of the suspects have not been disclosed.

Investigators indicate that one of the main suspects has earned at least 69 million euros through cryptocurrency by leasing the websites of criminal infrastructure for ransomware activities.
