Temporary Ban on Exporting Carp Fry from Armenia Extended by 6 Months
Mariam Z.
The export of carp fry from Armenia has been temporarily banned for an additional six months as of July 2. The necessity for this temporary ban arises from the demands of food security in Armenia, sustainable use of biological resources in Lake Sevan, and the preservation of biodiversity.
The government’s decision is based on the process of regulating the industrial fishing of carp in Lake Sevan, which has led to a noticeable increase in the biomass of carp in recent years. The recorded figures for carp biomass are 2668 tons in 2019, 2345 tons in 2020, 5348 tons in 2021, and 4700 tons in 2022.
