Rising Tensions Are Dangerous, Including in the Nuclear Sphere: Peskov
The escalation of tensions in the world poses a threat even in the nuclear sphere. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia.
“Overall, the active phase of regional conflicts in Europe and globally does not add stability and predictability, and it is potentially dangerous for further escalation of tensions, including in the nuclear sphere,” stated the Kremlin representative.
He noted that “deepened dialogue among key players is currently being rejected by the so-called collective West countries.”
On May 21, at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the permanent representative of Armenia, Rapulan Molokanyan, read a statement from 23 countries, which indicated that the threat of nuclear conflict has reached its highest levels in several decades.
On the same day, Russia began exercises for the use of non-strategic nuclear weapons. These exercises will take place in three phases, one of which will involve Belarus.
Russian President Vladimir Putin described the exercises as “planned work,” the Ministry of Defense referred to them as a “response to provocative statements and threats,” while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that they are aimed at “cold heads” in Western capitals.
