Bagrat Bishop Must Provide Clear Guarantees, Edmon Marukyan
Bagrat Bishop must provide clear guarantees that there can be no attempt to return to former regimes through the movement he leads. This was stated by former ambassador Edmon Marukyan during a press briefing with journalists.
"He not only needs to clearly record this, but he also needs to demonstrate it. There is an international standard, isn’t there, which says that a judge must be independent, and he must also appear independent. I have told the bishop the same thing. If our recommendations and approaches are taken into account, the movement will receive greater support from the people. If not, we will live and see," Marukyan said.
It should be noted that citizens dissatisfied with the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border had been staging protests in the Tavush region for a considerable time. Members of the "Tavush for the Homeland" movement and their supporters decided to march from the village of Kiran to Yerevan on May 4, where a large rally was held on May 9. Starting the next day, regular acts of disobedience have been held under the call of Bishop Bagrat. Against this backdrop, opinions often emerge suggesting that the former authorities of the Republic of Armenia are behind the movement.
