Arman Tatoyan Reacts to the Situation in Kiran

Former Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, has commented on the situation in Kiran on his Facebook page. He stated, "Who has the right to implement a secret 'border demarcation' in Kiran based on political decisions and without legal grounds? This pertains to the state border of our country and the safety of each of us.

In Kiran, the police have arbitrarily restricted the free movement of citizens, residents of the villages, and journalists performing professional work. Without legal regulations, some police checkpoints have been established, allowing individuals to move at the discretion of authorities. The so-called 'demarcation' of the state border is taking place without any explanation or grounds, and there is not even a draft regulation for it.

Issues related to the state border and border security concern each and every one of us, especially residents near the border, and their fundamental rights. Any restrictions require public accountability and proper legal justification. Meanwhile, by obstructing the professional work of journalists and the free movement of people, unlawful decisions are being carried out secretly and irresponsibly."
