Three Pillars Installed in Kiran

A pillar has been installed in Kiran, accompanied by armed and masked border guards. Local residents told Azatutyun that three pillars were erected overnight. It is currently unclear whether these are boundary markers or directional guides.

The road leading to Kiran remains closed, but Azatutyun managed to reach the village via an alternative route through the hills. The National Security Service announced yesterday that preparatory work is underway in the Tavush region, specifically in Kiran, aimed at border protection. However, the NSS did not elaborate on the nature of these preparations.

On May 15, the Prime Minister's Office stated that border guards from both countries are expected to position themselves at the agreed border in the next 8-9 days, with the more sensitive area of Kiran requiring additional clarifications and therefore being addressed later.

The bridge over the interstate road leading to Georgia passes to the Azerbaijani side in the Kiran area. The government has announced plans to construct a new bypass road, with a timeline of 2-3 months indicated.
