Babken Tunyan: If Bishop Bagrat officially invites me to meet and states the agenda, I will consider it

I had ruled out the possibility of a situation where the Church would initiate a change of power agenda. However, life has changed so much that nothing can be excluded. This was stated today, on May 17, by Babken Tunyan, a member of the National Assembly from the Civil Contract party, during a conversation with journalists.

When asked whether he has met with the Bishop of Tavush, Bagrat, and if he would meet if there was an invitation, he responded, "If Bishop Bagrat officially invites me to meet and states the agenda, I will consider it, but I do not see such necessity."

To the question of whether the agenda is unclear, he replied, "No, I knew that the security of Kiran, Voskepar, and Tavush is on the agenda. Right now, a movement is underway, people are expressing their views, and they are conducting acts of civil disobedience, which are processes typical of a democratic country. If they manage to convince the majority of the people or bring the impeachment process to a conclusion, as far as I remember, deadlines were also mentioned, anyone can advance that process. I see no problem with that."

Tunyan noted that the agenda of the movement significantly differs from their own agenda. Regarding the situation in Kiran, the Civil Contract MP stated, "According to my information, the road to Kiran is currently open. It is natural that people have grievances, and those grievances and concerns are evident. There is a process being undertaken by the government of Armenia for that. Whatever decision is made, there are always dissatisfied and satisfied people. It is understandable that for some of our citizens, certain inconveniences are created, there might be some issues with their properties, but if that is necessary from the perspective of Armenia's overall security, then all of that must be balanced."
