Why Do We Have Certain Issues in the Kiran Section? Explanations from Pashinyan

We have adopted a principle that the border runs where it runs. This was stated today by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a government meeting.

“This is a very important principle because if we were to go with the reasoning that we should create a new border line by deviating from this principle, it would mean that we are creating a permanent source of escalation and military clashes. By enshrining this principle, which states that the border runs where it runs, we have, in fact, significantly reduced the escalation context, if we have not removed it altogether,” he said.

Addressing the delimitation issues in the Kiran section, Pashinyan stated: “Why do we have certain issues in the Kiran section? Because we have adopted the principle that the border runs where it runs. This principle is applicable to all sections of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. With this, we create a delimitation formula that should work for the entire delimitation process. This means that the delimitation process becomes as predictable as possible.”

Recall that yesterday, the 9th meeting of the commissions on border delimitation was held at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, chaired by Deputy Prime Ministers Mher Grigoryan and Shahin Mustafayev. As a result of the meeting, a Protocol was signed. The parties agreed to coordinate the date and place of the next meeting in a working order.

In the village of Kiran, not all border posts have been installed. Regarding how this issue will be resolved and whether new road construction or resettlement of houses will arise, the Prime Minister's office stated that the three coordinates in Kiran have been identified using a computer method, and the posts will be installed later. The others have already been installed.

It is noteworthy that the residents of the mentioned villages in Tavush have raised their voices in protest, considering the ongoing situation a serious threat to their security. Led by Bishop Bagrat, the Tavush movement against the unilateral and illegal border delimitation process has turned into a nationwide movement.
