A Person So Deeply Involved in Politics Cannot Be Considered Sacred. Arpine Davoyan

“A person so deeply involved in politics and engaged in such activities cannot be considered Sacred for me; I would call him Bagrat Galstanyan or Vazgen,” said Arpine Davoyan, a member of the ‘Civil Contract’ faction, in an interview with NEWS.am on May 13.

“As for the impeachment process, I do not find it necessary to comment on it because you are not talking about an agenda issue. If someone is trying to stage a political action and present a political declaration, has such desires, positions, and dreams, it is not mandatory for everything he says to be discussed, interpreted, and given seriousness,” she stated, responding to a question about whether the issue of potential impeachment is being discussed in the ‘Civil Contract’ party and whether there are concerns related to rallies and actions.

“I think citizen Bagrat Galstanyan can say a lot because it is his job to say that the protests are well-attended and that the people support him. However, we are not in the deep Middle Ages, and we know very well what is happening in Armenia, where this all started, and who is hiding behind the person you mentioned or under the skirts of cloaks. If we shake off the skirts of the cloaks, a lot of representatives from the parties will emerge who, knowing their unacceptable status, are trying to stay out of the limelight so that this movement they have initiated doesn’t get discredited too quickly. It is clear at least from the fact that the person you mentioned is accompanied by all those who have dreamed of a change of power since 2018,” Davoyan said, commenting on the participants of the rally.

In response to a reporter's question about why police are using force against participants of peaceful actions, Arpine Davoyan stated that today, following the participants of the action, she realized that the protests are not peaceful and are accompanied by insults and curses from citizens. “Let’s understand what all this is being done for. The person said that they arrive peacefully without demanding a change of power, and then they come here and make demands for a change of power. Already names of candidates for the prime minister are floating in the air,” the MP said.

“Bagrat Galstanyan constantly shifts the responsibility onto the Mother See, saying that he is here under the blessing of the Catholicos, that everything happening is under his sponsorship, and the church is always in conflict with the government. We need to understand the essence of this movement, and when will Ejmiatsin finally say and take on full responsibility, so it doesn’t all remain on Bagrat’s shoulders. He is one of the executors; he is not the inspirer of all this. He has been brought in as a new face, which is not associated with the previous government,” Arpine Davoyan concluded.
