Ministry of Defense Addresses Rumors About Chief of General Staff

The Ministry of Defense has issued a statement.

“Some social media users are circulating false and manipulative information regarding the Deputy Minister of Defense, Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Edward Asryan's citizenship in Russia. There are also unfounded speculations concerning the citizenship of his family members, claiming they are solely citizens of Russia.

Chief of General Staff Edward Asryan is exclusively a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, while his wife is of Russian nationality, which means their children are dual citizens by birth. The Chief of General Staff’s wife and children not only hold Armenian citizenship but have also resided in the Republic of Armenia since 2006.

The Chief of General Staff’s son is conscripted and involved in the Armenia Armed Forces’ 2024 conscription activities,” the statement reads.
