Lyova Gevorgyan and Hrayr Alikhanian's Victories in Istanbul
At the Olympic qualifying wrestling tournament taking place in Istanbul, Armenia's Lyova Gevorgyan started with a victory. In the qualifying round of the 125 kg weight category, the European youth champion competed against Germany's Gennady Kudinovich, winning convincingly with a score of 11-0.
World U23 bronze medalist and European U23 silver medalist Hrayr Alikhanian, competing in the 74 kg weight category, defeated Germany's Shamil Usatayev 7-0 in the qualifying round.
U23 European bronze medalist and youth world bronze medalist Sergey Sargsyan suffered a defeat in the qualifying round, losing 0-11 to China's Avusaiman Halibai.
Youth European runner-up and 86 kg wrestler Mushegh Mkrtchyan also faced a setback, losing 1-8 to South Korea's Gwanuk Kim in the qualifying round.
The Istanbul tournament is the final qualifying event for the Paris Olympic Games. Wrestlers who reach the finals in each weight category will secure an Olympic berth, as well as the wrestlers who place third. This means that there will be an additional match among the bronze medalists for the Olympic spot.
