UN General Assembly Proposes Considering Palestine as a Full Member of the Organization

The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution urging the Security Council to reconsider the question of granting Palestine full membership in the organization.

A total of 143 countries voted in favor of the resolution, while 9 countries voted against it, including Argentina, Hungary, Israel, the USA, and the Czech Republic. Additionally, 25 countries abstained from voting.

The document consists of 9 points. It is stated that on exceptional grounds and without establishing a precedent, it is necessary to grant Palestine a series of procedural rights within the UN General Assembly as a permanent member.

Specifically, Palestine will be able to be included in the list of speakers for meetings on Middle Eastern issues, propose amendments, as well as put forward procedural proposals on behalf of a group of countries. However, it is emphasized that Palestine remains in the status of an observer state and thus does not have voting rights in the General Assembly, and its representatives cannot nominate themselves for positions within UN bodies.
