NSS Yet to Comment on Whether Deployment of Border Guards in Tavush Has Begun

The National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia has yet to comment on whether the process of deploying border guards in Tavush has started. The agency has also refrained from addressing inquiries about whether the heads of the border services of Armenia and Azerbaijan are in communication.

In response to a Sputnik Armenia inquiry, the NSS stated, “The requested information is a state secret.” It is worth noting that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced in April that the leaders of the two countries' agencies are in contact and need to agree on how the service will be implemented.

On April 19, the commissions for border delimitation of Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to commence delimitation from the Tavush region. The Prime Minister's office stated that as a result of these actions, Azerbaijan would gain 2.5 villages, while the Republic of Armenia would see a reduction in security risks. A several hundred-meter section of the road near Kiranats village will be modified, while Voskepar will not face any road issues. After the delimitation, armed forces will withdraw from the vicinity of four villages and cede their positions to border troops.
