This is an Unprecedented Phase of Tension: Peskov
The recent drills of non-strategic nuclear forces announced today by the Russian Ministry of Defense are connected to an "unprecedented phase of escalation" in the Ukrainian conflict. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian president.
Peskov noted that the West is provoking a new, unprecedented phase of tension in Ukraine, which demands a response from Moscow. He emphasized that the drills were triggered by recent statements from French President Emmanuel Macron and British Foreign Secretary David Cameron.
“The Ministry of Defense has provided a comprehensive explanation. If you are inquiring about which statements we are referring to, they are the words of the head of the British Foreign Office, Macron, and the Americans regarding their intentions to deploy NATO forces to the battlefield. This is an unprecedented phase of tension that requires special attention and specific measures,” Peskov clarified during a press conference.
