The Chief Prosecutor on the Return of Prisoners Held in Azerbaijan

What actions is the Prosecutor's Office taking regarding the return of prisoners held in Azerbaijan and the political-military leadership of Nagorno-Karabakh? This question was raised today, May 3, in the National Assembly during a report on the activities of the RA Prosecutor General's Office for 2023, by MP Taguhi Tovmasyan from the 'I Have Honor' faction, directed at Anna Vardapetyan.

The Chief Prosecutor recalled that he had met with the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan twice with the support and mediation of the Prosecutor General of Russia. No other meetings in this format have occurred yet.

Vardapetyan also informed that during meetings with international partners, the issue is raised and clarified. 'A week ago, we had a very high representation of prosecutors. About 30 prosecutors from 11 European countries visited Armenia at my invitation. Mostly, these were Prosecutor Generals and Deputy Prosecutor Generals who are informed about these issues.'

She added, 'You also know that in one of the cases, an Azerbaijani blogger was arrested in Russia. And this was also due to our inquiry, but it did not receive the proper legal procedure, and certain political processes began, and we were not given time to present documents, and then they tried to manipulate. This, of course, is already a story outside the law.'
