Mysterious Deaths of Whistleblowers on Boeing Malfunctions in the U.S.
The Seattle Times has reported the death of 45-year-old Joshua Dine due to a "sudden, rapidly spreading infection." Two weeks prior, he had been hospitalized after complaining of respiratory issues. Doctors discovered a bacterial infection that ultimately led to organ failure.
Joshua Dine was a former quality auditor for Spirit AeroSystems, a Boeing supplier, and one of the first whistleblowers to claim that Spirit's management ignored production flaws in the Boeing 737 MAX. Dine had provided testimony concerning a shareholder lawsuit against Spirit, as well as filed a complaint with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), asserting serious and gross violations of quality standards by top management at Spirit regarding the Boeing 737 production line.
He was terminated from his position in April 2023, after which he filed a complaint with the Department of Labor, alleging that his dismissal was in retaliation for raising concerns about aviation safety.
Two months ago, former Boeing engineer John Barnett also died under mysterious circumstances. Barnett had also testified against Boeing. The 62-year-old's body was found in a car in a hotel parking lot. According to the Charleston County police report, Barnett died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was scheduled to provide testimony in a lawsuit against Boeing on the day his body was discovered. Despite the police report, his acquaintances believe he would not have committed suicide.
