We Must Be Able to Mitigate Risks in a Timely Manner: Now is the Time, Says Armenian President
Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan addressed the border delimitation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the Tavush region, assuring that the actions of the Armenian authorities are aimed at the present, the future, and the establishment of sustainable peace in the region.
Khachaturyan discussed this topic in an interview with Armenpress and Shant TV. He stated, "The processes taking place in Tavush—between Voskepar, Baghanis, Kiran, and Berkaberd—are aimed at clarifying the borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan for the first time. Ultimately, we must understand that if there is a state, it must have defined borders, and the future of that state will depend on how clearly its borders with neighbors are established. Otherwise, there is always a danger; this danger must be neutralized. It is not about waiting and neutralizing this danger when it already exists, but doing so while it is still in a passive state."
He added that today's actions are directed at resolving this issue. Khachaturyan emphasized that in many cases, the authorities cannot provide detailed information about the negotiations to the residents of villages involved in the delimitation process, as this could hinder the final resolution.
"But I assure you that we are much more interested and bear responsibility for the events taking place. And for us, the most important thing is to ensure the safety of the people living in these villages," said President Khachaturyan.
He also noted that as an Armenian citizen, he considers the government's actions to be courageous. "Unfortunately, in the past, we left problems for the future and even publicly stated several times that there was this thesis regarding the unresolved issue of Nagorno-Karabakh: We could live like this for 100 years. We saw that living like this for 100 years is not possible, because circumstances and situations change, and what can be done today cannot be done tomorrow. We must be able to eliminate risks in a timely manner. Now is the time, and we are going in that direction," the president emphasized, commending the actions of the Armenian government.
Vahagn Khachaturyan urged Armenian citizens to trust the actions of the authorities and not to succumb to provocations that often aim to manipulate their emotions and do not reflect reality.
