Ararat Mirzoyan on Armenian-Russian Relations
There are certain issues in Armenia-Russia relations, but dialogue is ongoing regarding these matters. This statement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, in an interview with Al-Jazeera. The press service of the ministry reported this information.
“There are certain problems and questions in the context of Armenian-Russian relations, and yes, we have dialogue on these issues. Among them are questions that require complete mutual understanding, but I believe such problems exist in all relations,” said Mirzoyan.
The journalist asked whether Yerevan is reconsidering its relations, alliances, or membership in certain regional or international formats, and whether Armenia's agenda includes joining the European Union and NATO.
“In recent years, there have been several incursions into the sovereign territory of Armenia, and we are a member of the CSTO, which has the mission to protect the sovereign territories and borders of member countries. Therefore, when these incursions occurred, we did not see appropriate action from the organization to which we belong. The lack of a proper response raised questions within Armenian society, and we do not want to be part of a non-functional mechanism. We are still a member of the CSTO, but we need to work so that all the mechanisms established function, and there is a necessity for that,” the foreign minister responded.
