We Are Not Selling Our Homeland: Maria Zakharova
Russia rejects the possibility of ceding new territories in exchange for frozen assets in the West. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova. Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that Germany insists that frozen Russian assets should remain inviolable to use them as leverage in ceasefire negotiations and encourage Russia to make concessions.
“I don’t know who claims what there, but assets are not exchanged for territories. We are not selling our homeland. And Russian assets should remain inviolable, otherwise a tough response will follow Western theft. And many in the West have already understood this. It is regrettable that not everyone has,” Zakharova noted on her Telegram channel.
Recall that on the morning of February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to carry out a special military operation against Ukraine, as the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic had asked for help. Combat operations in Ukraine are ongoing to this day.
