On April 20, 2024, at 02:11 AM, the Central Division of the Armenian Police received a report from an unknown citizen about a fight occurring in a club on Vardanants Street in Yerevan.
In relation to the incident, the Investigative Committee of Armenia initiated criminal proceedings under Article 297, Part 2, Clause 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code. As a result of various investigative actions, significant circumstances of the incident were established.
The Investigative Committee reports that according to gathered evidence, during the period from 01:00 AM to 02:00 AM on April 20, 2024, the aforementioned club was the scene of a dispute involving a high-status individual known as A.G. and a group of his associates concerning personal matters. They engaged in loud arguments, expressing a reckless desire to assert their dominance over others, while showing blatant disregard for legal and moral norms, including uttering insults directed at others and ignoring efforts from security personnel and others to restore public order.
With their illegal and immoral actions, and by openly disregarding community standards, A.G. and unidentified individuals hindered the normal operation of the club, creating an atmosphere of fear and anxiety among those present and violating their peace.
Footage from surveillance cameras at the scene and other evidence revealed that during the confrontation, A.G. physically assaulted another individual, delivering multiple blows.
Considering these new circumstances, a second criminal proceeding was initiated under Article 195, Part 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code, which was merged with the initial criminal case for an objective and thorough investigation.
On April 23, 2024, police officers arrested A.G. and presented him to the investigative body. He has been charged under Article 297, Part 2, Clause 1 and Article 195, Part 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code. The investigative body has requested the court to apply custody as a preventive measure, but the court opted for house arrest instead.
It is noteworthy that under Article 322, Part 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code concerning the preservation of high-status criminal hierarchy, a criminal case against the same individual was sent to court on March 26, 2024, and is currently in the trial phase, where bail has been selected as a preventive measure.
The investigation into the hooliganism incident at the club is ongoing. Necessary measures are being taken to clarify all circumstances of the incident, including identifying other participants and assessing their actions legally. Relevant instructions have been given to the appropriate subdivisions of the Armenian Police.
