Peskov Comments on the Arrest of Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov

The press secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov, addressed reporters regarding the arrest of Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov. As reported by RIA Novosti, Peskov noted that there are various comments surrounding this issue, but it is necessary to rely on official information.

Peskov also stated that he is not aware of media reports suggesting that Ivanov is also suspected of state treason. On April 23, a Moscow court arrested Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov for two months on suspicion of receiving a bribe.

The 47-year-old Ivanov has worked as an assistant to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu for many years. Appointed to this position in 2016, Ivanov was responsible for projects related to Russia's military infrastructure.

The investigation believes Ivanov conspired with third parties to receive bribes during contractual and subcontractual work needed by the Ministry of Defense. He is particularly suspected of taking a significant amount in bribes, which can lead to a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. It is still unclear what the amount in question is.

The deputy minister denies the accusations against him.
