Russian Gazprom May Become Sponsor of Hungarian Ferencváros

The Russian company Gazprom may become the sponsor of the Hungarian club Ferencváros, reports Blikk. On Sunday, the Hungarian newspaper Nemzeti Sport announced that Ferencváros is engaged in negotiations with a major global company, without revealing the name of the firm. The following day, Blikk confirmed that the company in question is Gazprom.

It is expected that if a deal is signed, Ferencváros's budget will exceed 20 billion Hungarian forints (approximately 53.9 million dollars). According to 2022 data, the club's budget was 46.3 million dollars.

Last weekend, Ferencváros became the champion of Hungary for the record 35th time. From 2021 to 2023, the Budapest club was led by Russian coach Stanislav Cherchesov, under whom Ferencváros secured two Hungarian league titles and one Hungarian Cup.

In April 2023, media reports suggested that Gazprom was set to sign a 60 million euro sponsorship deal with Turkish club Beşiktaş. However, in July of the same year, Turkish media reported that Beşiktaş had not signed a sponsorship deal with the Russian company due to potential legal obstacles from FIFA and UEFA.
