Video: Residents of Several Villages in Tavush Province Protest Again
Residents of the Baghanis and Voskepar communities in Tavush province staged a protest yesterday. They blocked the section of the Armenia-Georgia interstate road between Baghanis and Noyemberyan.
The community members expressed their discontent concerning the information released about the border demarcation based on the results of meetings held by border delimitation commissions. They stated that they want to live peacefully and safely in their native village.
A source from Sputnik Armenia reported that the residents of Tavush remained at the Armenia-Georgia interstate road until 5:30 AM. They are currently in Kiran and are trying to clearly understand what steps they need to take.
The source emphasized that during the night, Tavush Province Governor Hayk Galumyan and the region's bishop, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, approached the protesters. The governor attempted to calm the situation, assuring them that everything would turn out well, but his words did not convince the villagers.
One resident of Kiran told reporters that specialists arrived in their village to take measurements based on the maps released yesterday. 'I saw them and asked them not to proceed until we understand what is going to happen. The measurements indicate that a church will be demolished, my workshop, the school will be destroyed, my neighbor's house, and my house. Everything needs to be demolished for the road to go through. We will not allow this,' the protest participant stated.
They emphasize that the situation has been presented to them in a completely different manner regarding how the road will proceed, and many questions remain unanswered.
Today, the governor of Tavush went to talk with the residents gathered on the Kiran road. He demanded that reporters not cover the meeting. Hayk Galumyan invited the assembled residents to the school auditorium. Some of the residents of Tavush went into a closed meeting with Governor Hayk Galumyan.
